Welcome! Christina Kenyon Here...

Profile Information

Tell us about yourself generally... What do you do? Where did you come from? Etc.
Me...generally...hmmm. I was born in St. Louis, Missouri, where my parents adopted me at two weeks old. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois.

In 1995 I moved to Orlando, Florida. I worked for Walt Disney Imagineering on the Celebration project. My role evolved into that of Community and Content Manager for the Celebration Community Intranet/Website. Exciting...loved it!

In the years since I have worked as a software tester for Publix Supermarkets and another small company. Most recently, I have worked with A&O Companies here in Lakeland where I have done a myriad of things ranging from transcribing dictation, to research projects, to writing their monthly newsletter.

In February of 2007 I accepted Jesus into my heart. In March of 2007 I was baptized (amazing experience!). In April of 2007, I married my beloved husband, Brien. Words just can't describe what we have together. Just when I think it can't get any better it does. And then some. =)

2007 was a biiiig year for me!

Right now I am basking in my Father's love and learning what it truly means to be His daughter. I'm learning to run to Him FIRST...with everything.
What are a few of your Life Goals (Ex. fitness, career, educational, etc.)?
I'll start general since I don't want to pull out my Life Plan right now. :)

Immediate goals include:
- Improve overall health by getting to the root of the issues I've been having. Finally found a doc who will be a good partner in health for me! My motivation for "getting well" is shifting from that of "I just want to feel better" to "Lord, let me heal so I can best do Your will!" At the same time, it is a joy to see how he has been using my health woes for His good.

- Deepen my knowledge of and relationship with God. Learning more about Him through His Word allows me to understand more about what obedience means and helps me to hear Him more clearly as He speaks into my life.

- Continue to learn how to best serve my beloved husband and how to partner with him most effectively. I love my man. :)

- Further develop my writing skills. That includes refining my knowledge of "the basics" (grammar and punctuation), as well as learning about the process of ghostwriting. I have several awesome books with which I will start. Lord speak, your servant is listening! I can't wait to see what writing projects are in store for me!!!

** My Health Story **

A little birdie (okay...it was Chad) suggested that I include some info I shared with him shortly after I registered on this site.

My fitness path is one that is probably very different from most. I have been chronically ill for so long (more detail on that in a blog later) that I can't just jump back into the fitness game (oh how I wish I could!).

It is very humbling to have doctors advise you to start with one minute a day. ONE MINUTE! Then add a minute in a few weeks and so on. The end goal in one year is to have 30 to 40 minutes a day for five or six days a week.

Oy!

In the intro video, Chad is very right when he suggests that you can learn about yourself through taking on a fitness routine. I am not, however, currently learning what I thought I would learn. I thought I would learn how tough I am...how much I can do...how competitive I am.

Instead I am learning how I need to humble my ego to allow myself to work at the pace my physical self will allow. I am learning that I can't control how much I do with sheer will...my body plays a part in that.

Talk about revealing. I have defined and redefined what "health" means to me many times in the past three years. I'm finally surrendering and letting God show me what health means. This site is going to be a great thing for me. I just know it.

Let the learning, growing and sharing begin!
Do you have a desired Health, Fitness, of Physique Goal? If so Please specify...
Energy...I want energy! I want vitality! I want that spark of life that has been missing for so long!!!
Are you currently using a specific program, routine or system that you are following to work on your Fitness Goals? (Ex. Body for Life, Crossfit, Jenny Craig, P90x, etc.)
What a pleasure it is to update this as of 09/2009 to say that I have been working out regularly three times a week doing modified CrossFit WOD's under Liz's care. WOOHOOOOOO!
Have you done your Top 100 Goals?
No

Musings on Indpendence and Interdependence (Specializing vs. Doing it All)

This post is a follow-up to the post-dinner coffee chat last Saturday (while Brigs and Erin were visiting). It has to do with the concept that one man should expect realistically to be able to do/be it all. (We were talking about trying to be both a planer and executor, I believe.)

Brien had a follow-up thought and case study: "Great composers, such as Mozart, didn't know how to play every instrument in the orchestra."

Could he have learned? Sure! Could he have played 1/2 as well as any of the… Continue

Musings On The Topic: Does Goal Setting Conflict With Simply Following God?

Does it conflict...it depends!

I think that the motivation behind, and attitude toward, the goals is what determines whether or not goal setting conflicts with simply following God.

The Motivation Behind:
When goal-setting stems from a person's desire to control (self or world around them) or fosters a false sense of self-sufficiency, then I believe that goal-setting can be contrary to just simply following God.

The Attitude Toward:
When goal-setting is elevated

I Am A Friend of God?!?!?!

Background:
Last week in church we were singing a song that was pretty and all...but I couldn't connect with the lyrics. I didn't understand them ONE BIT...and that bothered me.

The song was "I Am a Friend of God." I have provided a the lyrics and a link to a YouTube video below.

The chorus is "I am a friend of God", and it is repeated over and over again. While singing that part especially, I was really confused! I know I am my Father's daughter. I know that I am a Queen. But His frien… Continue

Biblical Principles That Are Also Business Principles

I was reading my bible this a.m. and came across a blurb in my study bible that really grabbed me. It is biblical principles, but I also believe they are applicable to business. They are now part of my personal spiritual and business/ethical mission statement.

From my study bible (related to 2 Timothy 4:3):
Sound doctrine is the eternal, unchanging truth about God and the gospel. Doctrine that merely scratches "itching ears" cares nothing for the truth; its concern is that it sound good… Continue

Consecrate Much?

I'm currently chewing on the concept of consecration. I'm seeking to understand what it means, and looks like, to consecrate my life and self daily.

My study bible says that consecration is "to set aside or dedicate for God's use."

The bible tells of both people and objects being consecrated. Sometimes the ritual includes using oil, washing (of self and of clothes), and/or abstaining from sexual relations.

I still don't understand what consecration looks like DAILY.

Hi Christina,
This page caught my attention as Chad was assisting with the set-up of SuccessFit for me. I actually selected the red one that you have first, then I saw this one. You know, I think you can edit your page design. Thank you, though, for the comment.

Christina,
You certainly defined the place where I was when I walked into CrossFit last Monday. I could not have said it better than you.
I am off again this morning for a session, then I have tomorrow off. I think I will walk Lake Hollingsworth sometime soon. Bob usually likes to do that; we will let you know, and perhaps you and any of your friends would like to come along.

Hello Christina,
It is good to hear from you--it sounds like you are busy with important plans and actions. CrossFit will be right when you are ready for it. This whole notion must have been in my unconscious just baking, because I don't even recall pondering it consciously, nor talking about it--I simply showed up and asked Chad to take me along for some coaching. The other coaches are there and they also assist.
I meant to leave a quotation by Dr. Carl G. Jung: "The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances; if there is a reaction, both are transformed." Thank you for your kindness to me in these early weeks of joining in on the SuccessFit Fun.
We will chat again over the weekend.

Christina,
You are a faithful companion on this road to fitness. I am up and ready to go to CrossFit to meet Chad and engage in another workout. He is such a help at this stage, and has some wonderful skills for coaching. The day off yesterday witnessed the disappearance of the muscle soreness I had experienced for the past three days, but I am sure there will be more as the days continue.
There is much to do before I depart at 7:00, hence I will chat later.

Hello Christina,
Thank you for welcoming me to SuccessFit. Chad finally made an investment in my health and convinced me to give it a try. This is a great idea for 2009. I was beginning to read your biography when I realized how late it is; therefore, Christina, I will finish this tomorrow when I have a little more time.
In friendship,
Carolyn
